Mobile Banks

Armoured trucks retrofitted as 'banks on wheels'

Before Opportunity's mobile banks came to town, our clients were among the millions of "unbanked" with little hope of growing their income. With no bank nearby, the only loans they could obtain were from unreliable sources that charged high interest rates. Now, Opportunity's mobile banks make weekly stops within walking distance of our clients' homes or businesses.

These "banks on wheels" bring services where the need is greatest, making them affordable and convenient, and saving our clients valuable time and money.

Opportunity Client Lukas Chingore and Mobile Bank

Help our mobile banks fuel up. A donation of $1,000 is enough to cover one month's fuel costs for a mobile bank that brings financial services to up to 5,000 clients in hard-to-reach areas.

Bullet-proof in Malawi
85% of Malawi's 12 million people live in rural areas. To equip them with business-building services, a small fleet of armoured vehicles now cross the country bringing the bank to the people. Each all-terrain mobile bank is equipped with teller windows, solar power, GPS tracking, and satellite technology to allow real-time transactions. In the cabin, two security guards and two bank employees travel together to more than a dozen service points each week.

Mobile banks typically visit local markets on designated market days. For a small fee that is less than a bus fare to the nearest town, clients can then deposit or access funds using their biometric bank cards.
