Based in Vancouver, Doris leads Opportunity International Canada's Philanthropy Team as Executive Vice President. Doris is committed to serving donors who want to help advance Opportunity’s sustainable, holistic response to global poverty. Her first exposure to global poverty was on a trip to Cambodia in 2002 with a relief and development organization. A seed was planted that has brought forth not only a commitment and passion to get things done but to engage at a very personal level.
Doris’s background in the world of leadership development at the post-secondary level has prepared her as an advocate and spokesperson for power and promise that microfinance has to deliver people from poverty. Prior to joining Opportunity International Canada, Doris served in senior leadership roles at Trinity Western University, where she also earned her MA in Leadership. As Vice-President, Advancement for Trinity Western University she led the team to the successful completion of a $35 million dollar campaign.
Since joining the team in 2005, the donor base has doubled and gift income has included some $22 million in donations and pledges supporting projects in Africa and Latin America. An active volunteer, Doris is committed to serving as a board member and advisor on several non-profit boards, including the Canadian Council of Christian Charities and two non-profits based in Africa. In 2008, Doris was honoured with a “Business, Professional and Entrepreneur” award from Leading Women.
"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."
